Sai Yok Noi waterfall.

Stairs to the railway.

The railway.

The railway.

The pass.

The pass.

We slept well in the The River Kwai Bridge Hotel in Kanchanaburi.
The plans for today are a visit to the Sai Yok Noi Waterval and the Hellfire Pass.
We set off by car, we first fill up with gas because we don't know whether we will encounter a gas station along the way.

When we arrive at the waterfall, it is as we remember from the past, a wide road with parking spaces in the middle and one side where there are also many shops. Mainly banana products are sold, but also dried fish. Pia buys dried fish and dried bananas, Tom buys two packs of coffee beans.
The waterfall contains more water than when we were there the first time, it is beautiful but it is not a spectacular waterfall. There are many Russians, both at the waterfall and at the shops.

We drive further to the Hellfire Pass. At the entrance we receive an explanation from a Thai who lived in America.
The entire complex is maintained by an organization from Australia and it shows. The visitor center is neat, we get an explanation about the routes we can walk, 1 km and 3 km.
For the latter we have to take a walky-talky with us because there is no telephone reception everywhere on this route.
We choose the short route and walk down the stairs to the start of the route. There are signs here and there that you walk this route at your own risk, as stones may fall.
The pass itself is not very spectacular, but if you consider that it was carved by hand in a tropical climate over a period of almost a year, it becomes a bit different.
When we have finished our meal we have a bite to eat at one of the restaurants near the pass.

We leisurely drive back to Kanchanaburi where we have a drink on the terrace of our room.
Then we walk into the street in front of the hotel, not in the direction of the bridge but to the other side. That is a bit disappointing, there are few places to eat, and it is difficult to walk along the street. That's why we walk back to the bridge where we eat at the same restaurant as yesterday.
On the way we see a restaurant opposite our hotel that is busy, so we will have dinner there tomorrow.

Somewhere along the way, Pia's sister Moue asked if we wanted to go to Buriram this weekend to pick up a car there. And also to spend the night there.
Tom doesn't really feel like it, it means three days in a row in the car, he wants to come along, but then we go back to Bangkok tomorrow.
We don't really know what we are going to do tomorrow, the plan is to visit a hot spring, but given the pulling power of the car, Tom has his doubts about possible mountainous terrain.
Later we decide to go to Buriram and return to Bangkok on Friday as planned.
